THE EASTER STORY AS
TOLD BY LUKE
The
Easter Story starts with Jesus and his disciples celebrating
Passover together. This celebration is most often referred
to as the "Last Supper".
After
Jesus and his disciples finish the Passover dinner they
go to the Mount of Olives to pray. Here is recounted one
of the most famous prayers in the Bible with Jesus praying
"Father, if you are willing let this cup pass from
me. Nevertheless, not my will but yours be done."
(Luke 22:41)
There
follows, the betrayal by Judas, the arrest, the denial
by Peter, the trial before the Sanhedrin (a Jewish theological
court), the hearing before Pilot and Herod, with the end
result being that Jesus is sentenced and crucified.
Jesus
died on the cross that day his last words being "Father,
into your hands I commit my spirit". (Luke 23:46)
His body is removed from the cross and is placed in a
stone tomb.
Then
comes the most edifying part of the report. The day after
the Sabbath Mary of Magdala, Joanna, and Mary the mother
of James came to the tomb to grieve, find the stone rolled
away, Jesus' body missing, and two "men in brilliant
clothes" who say to them: "Why look among the
dead for someone who is alive? He is not here, he has
risen." Jesus later appears to two of his disciples
as they travel on the road to Emmaus. It is also reported
that he appeared to Simon and then that he appeared before
the eleven disciples and further explained the Hebrew
scripture to them.
Later
went with them to the outskirts of the town, blessed them
and "was carried up to heaven". The disciples
then returned to Jerusalem full of joy and "were
continually in the Temple praising God." (Luke 24:53)

Ephesians
6:10-20 (N.I.V)
|
10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand
against the devil's schemes.
12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against
the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of
this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in
the heavenly realms.
13
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day
of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after
you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand
firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,
with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with
your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel
of peace.
16
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with
which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil
one.
17
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.
18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of
prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always
keep on praying for all the saints.
19
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may
be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery
of the gospel,
20
for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare
it fearlessly, as I should.

THE
CHRISTMAS STORY
Once
long ago, an angel came to Mary and said, "You will have a baby
boy and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and he will be
called the son of God"
And
so, when the time came Mary and Joseph rode in on a donkey to the little
town of Bethlehem. There was no room for them in the inn so Jesus was
born in a barn. Mary wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger.
That
night the shepherds were watching their sheep in the fields, Suddenly
an angel cme to them and said, "I bring news of great joy. A saviour
Christ the Lord has been born."
The
angels were jopined with many other angels singing, Glory To God in
the Highest, Peace on Earth and Good will to men. The shepherds said
to each other, come lets go see this wonderful thing. They ran to Bethlehem
and saw Jesus laying in the manger.
Also
that night three men from the east saw a bright star. They were filled
with Joy. They followed the star. The star led them to the baby Jesus
and they fell down and worshiped him and gave him good gifts.
And
now every Christmas we too worship Jesus our saviour, and celebrate
his Birth!
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY JESUS!
Lets
not forget what Christmas is really about.
